In our new, smaller taster pack, this pure, 100% natural soya wax is a great and simple product for anyone who delves into the wonderful craft of Batik. Simply melt the wax, dip in your tjanting or brush and start applying! Once melted, the wax is very stable and can be kept in a molten state for an extended period of time.

Batik Instructions:
. Melt the wax and wait until it runs clear.
. On a stretched silk, paint a brightly coloured background, using as many shades as you like.
. When the silk has dried, dip your tjanting or brush into the wax and apply a pattern that would cover approx. 50% of your silk fabric.
. Once dry, apply a darker colour of paint over the entirety of the silk.
. Wait until dry, then place a sheet of paper above and below your silk and iron until wax is transferred onto the sheet.
. Any remaining excess wax can be washed out with normal detergent.

Is it possible to fix H Dupont steam fixed dyes in the microwave?

Yes - this kind of fixing is ideally suited to several techniques, such as the "crumpling technique". For this, soak the silk in water and vinegar and wring it out. Then drip H Dupont steam fixed paints onto the silk with a pipette or spread the paint with a brush. When finished press the silk gently. Put the silk into a microwave pot with a lid and fix it for 3 minutes (in a 600-Watt microwave). Let the silk cool off, wash out the surplus paint, finished!

Gutta Outlines are a great way to start to learn how to silk paint. They make very nice cards or small pictures. TIP:
Use freezer paper - it makes silk painting really easy - you just iron it on to the reverse of the silk outline and then you don't need a frame - see below - 20 sheets for 50p
